10KM Paris Centre

Today I crashed the 10KM Paris Centre race in order to support my EPPG Tri Club mate Charlotte. I managed to borrow a race number and get to the starting line.

The race presented no major difficulty and I think that if I had been running on my own, I would have managed to beat my record and maybe run in 45 minutes. I actually ran quite easily in 00:50:53 according to my Garmin. I think that the training from these past few weeks has been very helpful.

It was a great day and I really enjoyed seeing the mighty Carl Lewis who was giving the go to the race.

What's a triathlon?

Triathlon is a sport that combines three disciplines: swimming, cycling and running. The purpose is to complete a set distance in each discipline successively and as quickly as possible. Each component of the triathlon is timed including 'transitions' and the winner is the person completing the whole event in the shortest time.

There are several distances in triathlon. The shortest distance you can find is called Super Sprint (400 m swim, 10 km bike, 2.5 km run). The distances recognised internationally by triathlon's federations are the Sprint Distance (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5km run), the Intermediate Distance (aka Standard or Olympic Distance) (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run), the Long Course (1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, 21,1 km run) and the Ultra Distance, aka Ironman (3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km run).
